SMORE is a summer program that involves taking our cooker to the McGoy park and Liberty Park on Thursday evenings to cook hot dogs and hamburgers which are served with chips and lemonade. This is simply a way for us to connect with our friends in the park neighborhoods. During our time there, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., we pass out New Testaments and children's Christian story books. We visit with friends and sometimes organize games and activities for the children. We offer prayer to any who might have a need. From time to time there are special activities which might include: a visit from the local fire department with one of their trucks, the setting up of inflatables, or the making a hydrogen ice cream
Back Pack Program.
The Back Pack Program is operative during the school year. Through this effort we prepare, on Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m., 115 back packs with food and necessities which are then given to children in need at the Allen Bowden School. Resources for the back packs are provided through special fund raising efforts, our annual pumpkin patch, and both private and corporate gifts. We always need additional workers to help us prepare the back packs on Sunday morning.
Local Missions.
Our local missions team, which includes a "chain saw gang" answers the call throughout the year to meet the needs of residents in our community. A sample of some of the needs we have recently responded to include: building of handicapped ramps, porch and various home repairs, painting, yard clean up, and climb removal. The Local Missions Team becomes active as various needs arise.
