This school year seems to be flying by and before you know it summer will be upon us. The Backpack Program has been thriving this year. God has truly blessed this ministry and we give Him all the Glory! We’ll give you an update in the April Crossbeams of all the extra things we’ve been able to do for the children of Allen Bowden this year. Thank you to all who help with this vital ministry in a number of ways! You are greatly appreciated! We have fun on Sunday mornings at 8:45 in the Backpack room assembling 111 sacks of food for the upcoming week. Please join us and make new friends. You’ll be glad you did!

Thank you for your continued support of both the Backpack Program and the Blessing Box through your volunteer efforts and your contributions! During our Missions trip to Sager Brown we assembled cleaning buckets, school kits and hygiene kits to be sent to various locations within the United States, including our own state of Oklahoma! We also assisted in their local food distribution program to the city of Baldwin, Louisiana. We hope to make another trip to Sager Brown this coming fall, and are looking into a trip to serve with Appalachia Service Project in the Appalachia area sometime within the next year. If you are interested in either trip, please get in touch with us! We would love to be a part of helping you follow God’s call on your life into missions!
Blessings from the Missions Department!
Leslie Schmidt is an elementary music teacher/STEAM teacher (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) and professional vocalist from Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She grew up attending Sapulpa First United Methodist Church. After graduating from Sapulpa High School in 2003, Leslie pursued her degree in music education from Northeastern State University. Leslie graduated from NSU in 2008 and began her career in the elementary music classroom. Currently, Leslie teaches elementary music and STEAM at Lone Star School in Sapulpa, OK. In addition to teaching, Leslie has performed professionally in the Tulsa area for over 10 years. She has performed with the Tulsa Opera Chorus for 3 seasons as well as many other churches during that time. Leslie and her family reside in Sapulpa, a place she will always call home. Leslie is the daughter of Dennis & Terri Wadley and the granddaughter of Jake & Dorotha Satterfield. She is married to Mike, of 13 years. Together, they have 2 energetic boys, Jake, 10 years & Keyton, 5 years. Leslie enjoys watching & going to basketball games, spending time with her family, crafting with her Mom and singing Praise & Worship songs! She feels like she has been called to not only teach children, but to lead others into freely worshipping our Lord and Savior through praise and worship. Leslie is so excited to be back at her home church that she grew up in and be able to lead people closer to God through the art of song.
Beginning in March Pastor Schneider will offer a class titled, Understanding the United Methodist Church, which will explain some of the history, beliefs, and distinctive practices of the UMC today. He will offer the class in two settings: a “sack lunch” noon time study on Wednesdays, (in the Parlor) and following our Wednesday evening dinner (6:15—7:15) in the Library. This class will be of interest to ongoing members, new members, and prospective members. There is no charge and all are invited.
During the Season of Lent we will once again invite our members to help Change our World through the giving of their change. Throughout this season “Change the World” offering jars will be placed at various places throughout our church. We invite you, each time to you come to church, to place your change in one of these jars. (Of course you can put folding money or checks in these jars as well.) All of the proceeds of this offering (along with an offering taken during our Maunday Thursday service of Holy Communion) will go towards the various mission projects supported by our church. Along with this newsletter, you will receive a Change the World chart listing the various missions supported by this offering. You are welcome (along with Sunday School classes, small groups, etc) to “adopt) one or more of these missions. To do so simply indicate the mission you want your gift directed to in the “memo” line of your check, or place your cash gift in an offering envelope and write the designated mission on the outside of the envelope.
This is a wonderful way for people of all ages to participate in the mission work of our church. Please be generous and faithful in your giving!
On Saturday, January we will celebrate the 100th birthday of Hazel Chambers. A reception, in her honor, will beheld in the Fellowship Hall at 2:00pm and will end at 4:00pm. This is a come and go card reception. Hazel has been a faithful member of our congregation since 1960. and until recently was an active member of the Crusaders Sunday School class. With the recent passing of Katheryn Aston, hazel is now the oldest living member of Sapulpa 1st UMC.
We are so thankful for all your continued support over the busy Holiday season! Our Toys for Friends drive was a great success and we made some children very happy! Our Children’s focused service on the 8th went very well, we are so blessed to have a great group of children. They were very eager to get the chance to sing that song for all of you!
We want to say a special thank you to everyone who was able to attend the Children’s Christmas Party and help make that a special time for the Children. The magic show by Mike Platten, at Spotlite Magic and Costumes, was a true treat! I appreciate everyone and everything that came together to make that a success!

The announcements and morning message are brought to this service by means of video so participants in both services hear the same announcements an message each Sunday.
